Crashed - Croydon, England. 1931

On 22nd April 1931, a pilot was undergoing a qualification test, which involved three light weight and three fully loaded take-offs and landings, on the aircraft type to be flown. The pilot had completed his test, when he decided to try another touchdown after not being happy with his final one. As he applied full throttle to the engines, the starboard engine failed to pick up and this led to the aircraft swinging violently towards the aerodrome fence. There was no room left to take-off on the two engines remaining, and without any brakes there was not enough distance to stop. The aircraft ploughed through the fence, and finished up in the middle of a dump for old aeroplanes! The pilot was unhurt, but the Argosy caught fire and was destroyed.
