Croydon Airport Society was formed in 1978 with the object of perpetuating the history and the traditions of Croydon Airport and the men and women who worked and flew from there. The terminal building, now known as Airport House is a Grade II listed building. The historic records, photographs and memorabilia held by the Society are available for local education and for researchers working on British Civil Aviation history.
The Society, now with a membership of over 700 including many overseas members, meets every month usually at Airport House (the old terminal building), or as advised in our Newsletter. It organises visits to places of aviation interest and also organises an annual "aerodrome walkabout" when visitors can see what is left of the historic site. Lectures arranged are not only related to Croydon subjects but also all aspects of civil aviation history.
The Society takes pride in keeping in touch with all members via a quarterly Newsletter and also publishes a Journal twice a year. Also the Control Tower Visitor Centre is open to the public on the first Sunday of the month, when our friendly guides can be on hand to help.
The Annual Luncheon attended by many aviation personalities is a very friendly and informal occasion, and during the summer we hold an annual Fly-in and Garden Party at Redhill aerodrome organised by one of our enthusiastic members who operates a vintage aircraft business from there.
Membership is open to all that have an interest in aviation, in Croydon and in the aeroplanes that flew from there.
