IMPERIAL AIRWAYS SILVER MEDAL This medal has a plain back with the engraving: "Winner - 1/2 Mile River Swim - 6-8-38". The front has the Imperial Airways wings in gilt and enamel. BRASS IMPERIAL AIRWAYS PILOTS' WINGS

Each pilot would proudly wear a pair of these wings on his jacket. You can just make out the 'IA' symbol for Imperial Airways on the shield in the centre of the badge.
